RICH LITERARY VERSES
Being an avid reader, I recently came across with a unique and enticing book called “Mythological Monologues”, written by Purba Chakraborty who is the author of 3 more books –
1- Walking in the Streets of Love and Destiny (2012),
2- The Hidden Letters (2014),
3- Canvas of a Mind (2017)
She is an English Literature educator, content developer, and blogger too.
Mythological Monologues is a collection of 26 dramatic monologues of epic characters from Ramayana and Mahabharata.
The poetess Purba chakraborty has done a brilliant job to run an errand and in visualising monologues out of the mouth of characters like Ahalya, Janki, Urmila, Kunti, Karna, Eklavya, and others while presenting it in the form of a number of poems. The poetess has divided the chapters of this book into 2 halves.
The one is-
1- When the characters from the Mahabharata speaks,
and the other is
2- When the character from the Ramayana speaks.
The book really evokes different shades of some very strong characters. Her poems recalled all those scenes of Mahabharata and Ramayana which I used to watch on Doordarshan during my childhood days. We all are familiar with the Ramayana, and the Mahabharata, they are epics that have so many layers to them that even after reading many times, the reader can discover more.
The last line of the poem based on the character of Abhimanyu made me literally emotional. That poem gave me a lesson that “Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”
The words used in this book may sometime makes you to search it on google, because I personally felt like some words were hard and new to me. But it also helped me in learning new words and I added them in my vocab too.
Reading this book and characters of Ramayana and Mahabharata will surely help you to apply its teachings in the journey of life and will indeed help in enriching life in general.
This book will lead you to assimilate and accommodate the words and yes, the knowledge too. The concept, the poetic expression donned with rich literary verses yet easy to understand makes it a beautiful piece of art.
I would recommend this book to all the literary fanatics out there.
